What Is Microblading? Everything You Need to Know | Orlando Brow Studio

Updated: Mar 29

If you've been thinking about microblading and don't know where to start, this guide is for you. At Orlando Brow Studio, microblading is one of our most requested services — and for good reason. It's one of the most effective ways to wake up every morning with full, naturally shaped brows without spending time filling them in.

Whether you're in Colonialtown, Baldwin Park, Winter Park, Thornton Park, or anywhere across the Orlando area, here's everything you need to know before booking your appointment.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique that creates the appearance of fuller, more defined eyebrows. Unlike traditional tattooing, microblading uses a specialized hand tool with ultra-fine needles to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin in precise, hair-like strokes.

The result is brows that look completely natural — as if each individual hair was drawn in with perfect precision. Most clients describe their microbladed brows as looking like a more polished, symmetrical version of their natural brows, not like makeup or a tattoo.

How Does Microblading Work?

At Orlando Brow Studio, every microblading appointment begins with a detailed consultation and brow mapping session. This is the most important part of the process — Jada takes careful measurements of your facial structure to determine the ideal brow shape, arch, and thickness that will complement your features.

Once the shape is mapped and approved, a professional-grade topical numbing cream is applied to the brow area. This minimizes discomfort significantly — most clients describe the sensation as light pressure or scratching, not pain.

The microblading itself involves making precise, controlled strokes in the skin and depositing pigment that matches your natural brow color. The process typically takes 2–3 hours for an initial appointment, including consultation, mapping, the procedure, and aftercare instructions.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading typically lasts 12–18 months, though this varies based on several factors. Skin type plays the biggest role — clients with drier skin tend to retain pigment longer, while those with oilier skin may see fading sooner. Sun exposure, skincare products (especially those containing retinol or AHAs), and how closely you follow aftercare instructions also affect longevity.

A touch-up appointment is recommended around the 12-month mark to refresh the color and maintain the shape. With regular touch-ups, many clients keep their microbladed brows looking fresh for years.

Is Microblading Painful?

This is one of the most common questions we get at Orlando Brow Studio, and the honest answer is: most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the procedure is. A professional numbing cream is applied before and during the process, which significantly reduces any discomfort.

Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but the overwhelming majority of our clients at Orlando Brow Studio complete the appointment comfortably and walk out feeling great about their results.

Microblading vs. Combo Brows vs. Ombre Brows — What’s the Difference?

Microblading creates individual hair-stroke patterns for a soft, natural finish. It’s ideal for clients who want a subtle enhancement that looks like their own brows, just fuller and more defined.

Combo brows combine microblading strokes with a gentle powder shading effect in the body of the brow. This adds more definition and depth, and tends to last longer than microblading alone. It’s a great option for clients with oilier skin or those who want a slightly more polished look.

Ombre brows use a shading technique only — no strokes — to create a soft, powdered brow effect that transitions from lighter at the front to slightly deeper at the tail. This is the most long-lasting PMU brow technique and requires little to no daily maintenance.

At your consultation, Jada will assess your skin type, natural brow hair, and desired result to recommend the best technique for you.

How to Prepare for Your Microblading Appointment

Getting the best possible results from microblading starts before you arrive. Here’s how to prepare:

Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, and skip blood thinners like ibuprofen or aspirin for 48–72 hours prior, as these can cause more bleeding and affect pigment retention. Avoid retinoids, chemical peels, and exfoliating treatments for at least one week before. Do not wax or thread your brows in the week leading up to your appointment. If you’ve had Botox recently, wait at least 3 weeks before booking.

Microblading Aftercare — What to Expect

The first 10–14 days after microblading are the most critical for healing. Your brows will appear darker immediately after the procedure — this is completely normal. As the skin heals, the pigment softens and lightens by 20–40%, settling into its true color over the following weeks.

Keep your brows completely dry for 7–10 days. Avoid sweating heavily, swimming, saunas, and direct sun exposure. Do not pick or scratch any light scabbing that forms. Avoid applying makeup directly on the brows during healing.

At Orlando Brow Studio, we provide full aftercare instructions at every appointment and are available to answer questions during your healing process.

Who Is Microblading For?

Microblading is a great fit for almost anyone who wants fuller, more defined brows with minimal daily effort. It’s especially popular among clients who have over-plucked brows, sparse natural brows, uneven brows, or anyone who spends time every morning filling in their brows and wants to simplify their routine.

Some clients are not ideal candidates for microblading, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those currently on blood thinners or Accutane, those with active skin conditions in the brow area (such as eczema or psoriasis), and those with very oily skin (for whom combo brows or ombre brows may be a better fit).
